Using technical criteria and standards on preparing proposal, design, implement and execution of mineral exploration, exploitation and mineral processing projects, with technical and economical consideration is decisive for improving productivity in natural resources sector and safeguarding Iran’s national wealth. In mining technical criteria program, technical criteria, standards, guidelines, best practices, list of services, instructions and regulations are prepared and endorsed for implementation in Iran’s mineral sector. Based on the Plan and Budget Organization policies and citation of Article 18 of the third five-year development plan act compiling technical criteria for mineral sector began in 2002 as a legal task of supervision and operation office of the ministry of industry, mine and trade. In accordance with the provisions of Article 107 of the mining executive order and Article 32 of Iran’s mining engineering organization law, mandatory principles and rules for design and implementation of the exploration programs, equipping and exploitation of mines and processing plants, for improving the productivity and efficiency should be developed, endorsed and executed by the ministry of industry, mine and trade. Experts, companies and miners are legally obliged to follow the technical criteria, standards guidelines, best practices, list of services, instructions and regulations of the MTCP. The directors of the MTCP since launching the program, were Eng. Shamsedin Siasirad (2002-2005), Eng. Vajihollah Jafari (2005-2013) and currently Dr. Jafar Sargheyni. The financial support of the Iranian mines and mining industries development and renovation organization (IMIDRO) has been vital in preparation and publications of MTCP technical criteria, standards guidelines, best practices, list of services, instructions and regulations, which is highly valued and appreciated.
